Marshall Terrace Featured Artist: Barbra Bloy - August 2014

Barbra Bloy is a Minneapolis visual artist specializing in jewelry, oil/acrylic painting, and drawing. Barbra has a studio in the California Building and she calls the Marshall Terrace neighborhood home.

Barbra has been living in Marshall Terrace since 1997 when she bought a house on California Street. “I wanted to be in Northeast near the California Building, and I found this great duplex in Marshall Terrace,” she said. “I’ve watched the neighborhood change for the better over the years. People are working to improve their houses and are becoming much more invested in the neighborhood. It’s great.”

Though largely self-taught, Barbra has studied at the Milwaukee School of the Arts, Minneapolis College of Art & Design, and the School of Jewelry Arts in New York City where she studied traditional jewelry-making techniques. Today, she makes jewelry from sterling silver and semi-precious stones, paints, draws, and makes other craft items.

Barbra is a member of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA) and has participated in Art-A-Whirl since 1996. You can view her work on her website, www.bbloy.com and at www.nemaa.org.

“Creativity is a very important aspect of my life, and I express it in all areas of my life,” said Barbra.
